At the end of the journey a stark
realization came to all of us that altered our thoughts for the better. The
only thing constant in the world is change. And the people of Panamucan
experienced this sudden change that cost them their homes but, fortunately, not
their lives. It might have all been depressing news but the experience left a
constant pounding within their thoughts the importance of protecting our
environment and disaster preparation.
The people of Panamucan were
the ones who suffered, rather than those who were truly responsible for
disregarding the environment. It was bittersweet information to swallow for the
students because although there was pain and despair, the people showed their
courage and optimism by moving on and changing whatever ways they had that
could cause even more destruction to the natural world. They never lost hope stayed faithful to the
Almighty God.
We went to
Panamucan expecting photographs, interviews, and videos, but we left with even
more, a new found respect and admiration for our Mother Earth and our
blessed lives.
